On Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 May, the first introductory seminar of the ancient Shuri-te of Okinawa in Puglia was held. Organized by the SBAM association, in collaboration with the Italian Center for Traditional Karate Shorin-ryu of Okinawa, and the Dojo Bushi of Galatone (Lecce), the seminar was the first of a series to be held in Puglia.
On the first day the practitioners worked in pairs, studying the preparatory exercises of the Shidokan Shorin-ryu (including the various Kakie-di, exercises for martial use of the body, conditioning exercises, etc.), all accompanied by technical and historical explanations of Emanuel Giordano sensei. The second day they worked on the 6 Kihon kata of Shidokan Shorin-ryu, and on the kata Naihanchi Shodan with its bunkai.
The practitioners were fascinated and excited to find the link between their style, the Shotokan, and his "parent", the Shorin-ryu! We thank the Dojo Bushi of Galatone for the hospitality.
Here is the "review" of Luigi, President of the SBAM association:
"I had the pleasure of organizing (and participating in) an introductory seminar of the Shorin-ryu with Emanuel Giordano sensei. It was especially enlightening if we look for the origins of the art of Karate blurred by a lot of 'ignorance' and personal interest of masters who too careful to make a career have forgotten (admitted they have never known it) the true martial essence and the arts connected to it, exceeding my expectations both from a technical and historical point of view was a very interesting experience I hope to repeat!
